How Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Made?

There are two main methods to create lab-grown diamonds: High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT)and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).

HPHT mimics the extreme conditions deep in the Earth, where natural diamonds form. A small diamond seed is placed in a chamber with high pressure and temperatures of up to 1,600°C. The carbon atoms attach to the seed, and a diamond grows over a few weeks.

CVD, on the other hand, uses carbon-rich gases in a chamber. The gases break down and deposit carbon atoms onto the diamond seed, allowing it to grow layer by layer. This method offers better control over the diamond's clarity and purity.

While they are made differently, lab-grown diamonds are nearly indistinguishable from natural diamonds. They're also about 30-40% less expensive, making luxury more accessible.
